Please note, although we were gifted this item, the review is entirely independent, plus we’ve been using Learning Resources UK for coding support for years now and still love them!
With Christmas on its way, we are really excited to have had the chance to review the MagiCoders from Learning Resources UK – Skye the Unicorn and Blaze the Dragon really would make a fantastic gift idea for preschool and primary age kids that is fun and educational too.
Here’s our review…
What are the Coding Critters MagiCoders?
The MagiCoders are the brand new coding playsets from the award-winning Coding Critters family, designed to help kids from the age of 4 learn all about coding through play.
Aimed at children age 4-8, the MagiCoders come in the Blazer the Dragon toy robot and Skye the Unicorn toy robot.
With the help of their magic wands, coding spell books, and interactive playsets, Blazer and Skye help children learn coding fundamentals through fun, screen-free play.
Lily has loved playing with her Coding Critters Ranger & Zip as well as her Bopper Hip & Hop playsets, so she could not have been more excited to add the MagiCoders to her range.
What Learning Resources UK say…
Introduce STEM learning through fun coding activities and creative play
Coding is like a language of magical symbols arranged in the right order to cast a spell. New Coding Critters MagiCoders Blazer the Dragon and Skye the Unicorn are a fun way to introduce the fundamentals of computational thinking through imaginative play.
When children play with Blazer and Skye, they cast real coding spells. With the help of a fantastical magic wand programmer, your child can make the MagiCoders light up, sing, dance, and more.
Each MagiCoder comes with a full colour coding spell book filled with coding wizardry. Kids can master coding spells, and then use their newfound skills to help Blazer or Skye save the day during fun coding challenges.
Skye the Unicorn – MagiCoders Review
The magic starts from the moment you open the box, with such a unique take on coding toys – you simply use the magic wand to type in a spell and watch your kids’ faces light up as their new best friend is magically responding to their commands.
This is coding, but to kids, this is simply magic and having fun!
Lily loves anything that involves unicorns and rainbows, so to find out she could have her very own magical unicorn to cast magic spells over, she was absolutely buzzing – she even calls it her very own pet unicorn, coding it to follow her around wherever she goes 🙂
You can control Skye’s direction like a remote control, pressing the directions buttons before pressing ‘go’, or switch to ‘spell mode’ and use the spell book to perform the training spells with the coding wand. It is really easy to use, with big buttons, bright colours and simple instructions.
Lily is lucky to own other members of the Coding Critters family and is very much in love with Botley the Robot too, all which she regularly plays with, but Skye the Unicorn really is something very magical.
Lily’s favourite ‘spells’ with Skye are to change the colour of her horn to find her mood and to get her dancing in the Merry Go Round spell, but there are so many fun magic tricks you can do with Skye that there really will be years of fun playing with her.
Thank you so much to Learning Resources UK for sending Lily her very own Skye the Unicorn – it really is amazing to know she is having fun with her new ‘pet’ without realising she is learning too.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the MagiCoders if you’re looking for an educational toy or gift for Christmas or a birthday – they really will make kids smile and keep them playing for many hours – especially as they learn more and more magic spells!
