Brook Meadow campsite in Leicestershire was one of our first camping trips post-covid, so we couldn’t wait to head back again.

We remember the peaceful lakeside spot that we pitched our tent on, the family-friendly atmosphere and (Lily’s favourite) the wooden rope swing in the trees.

When we heard they were introducing an Airstream to their glamping options, we knew it was the excuse we needed to return to this beautiful lakeside campsite and we booked for their very first weekend.
Since good things come to those who wait, we had to hold off visiting until the build was complete and we were able to rebook, but it was definitely worth every minute of the wait.
Here’s why…

About Brook Meadow
Brook Meadow is a lakeside campsite on the border of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. It’s a working farm, with options for camping, glamping and campervans or motorhomes too.

The team there has worked really hard to give it such an incredible atmosphere, making it relaxed, safe and friendly for everyone visiting.

The facilities are of a high standard, and you have the choice of lakeside pitches, electric pitches or fields by the main facilities. Even on a busy weekend, everyone was well spread out and we had plenty of space, both when we stayed in our tent and when we stayed in the airstream.

I’m pretty sure Brook Meadow has the most magical sunrises and sunsets, as well as such a special vibe that you instantly feel relaxed when you’re there. The fact we spent this weekend in an airstream was just the icing on the cake 🙂

The Airstream
Did I mention we stayed in an Airstream? Well, we did! We stayed in a Silverbird Airstream 1967 Caravel. It was one of my actual life goals, and not only did Brook Meadow make it happen, but they made it even better than I dreamed of too!

We’d booked it 6 months before hand, but various things meant we had to move it ’til after the summer – and it was more than worth the wait.
The team at Brook Meadow had made sure the whole Airstream experience was one that you will truly remember as something special, from the retro decorations and prime lakeside location, through to the outdoor decking area and special touches too.

The Airstream and private decking area had everything you needed for your stay, including an electric kettle and toaster indoors, outdoor BBQ kitchen with sink, covered outdoor area, indoor and outdoor seating, and even your very own hammock (Lily’s favourite!).

The bed was super comfy, with bedding and vintage blankets all included – we were super cosy, even on a chilly autumnal night when the temperatures massively dropped.

Despite being on my own with a very excitable child, I felt so relaxed all weekend, and had multiple opportunities to enjoy a relaxing tea or coffee outside the airstream, watching Lily play in the trees or on the tree swing with her new friends – it had been an especially stressful month for us for various reasons, and all the stress instantly blew away at Brook Meadow.

To top it all off, the team had magically built a rainbow covering, that shines a rainbow down the side of the Airstream.

Things to do
The campsite itself has plenty to do, with a tree swing and fishing by the lake, trees to play amongst and then a natural play area up by the main fields.

We were really excited to take advantage of the family moooovie in the cow shed on the Saturday night, where we took our camping chairs and blankets (we brought these with us – they pretty much live in our car anyway!) and snuggled up with some popcorn in the shed to watch Sing 2.

There were hay bales for those who didn’t have seats, but we definitely recommend bringing your blankets with you to wrap up warm.

Nearby you have attractions such as Foxton Locks, Mini Meadows Farm and (Lily’s favourite) West Lodge Farm Park, or you can spend your days relaxing at Brook Meadow itself.

Added extras
At Brook Meadow, we massively recommend booking onto the morning egg collecting with Mary at the farm. Not only do you get to collect eggs, but she introduces you to the animals, tells you more about the farm, and she is super lovely too!

We were also very kindly gifted a cream tea hamper – and, wow, it was stunning! Complete with homebaked scones, homemade early grey tea loaf, clotted cream, jam, milk and tea, we were so spoiled and it was just beautifully presented. You can also get yourself a breakfast hamper, bakery basket or special bouquet too!

They often organise for a food truck at weekends, such as pizza or fish & chips (keep an eye on their social media for info).

Our Saturday night was pizza, which looked amazing, but we got their fairly late and there was a 2 hour wait, so we instead made the most of having a cheeky cream tea from the afternoon tea hamper for our dinner – Lily definitely wasn’t disappointed with having a scone-filled dinner, and we’ll remember next time to get there early for some yummy pizza!

What to bring
If you’re staying in the Airstream, all your bedding and washing up towels are included. We have a camping box that we take with us with little camping lights, but these weren’t needed as there were blue nightlights in the Airstream itself.

We did take our own towels for washing our faces and hands, shower towels as well as our own blankets and camping chairs for the evening outside as well as the cowshed. We also have slipper socks/tent slippers that were great for inside the Airstream and always take our own heat mugs for keeping our evening cocoa/morning coffee warmer for longer.

Bring your own food and drinks, marshmallows for toasting (you can hire a firepit if you like!) and milk for teas/coffees/breakfast. There is a little shop on site for essentials if you forget them too!

Conclusion
Wow, what a weekend. The airstream stay was not only a dream of mine, but it actually blew our minds. The team at Brook Meadow had clearly worked hard to make it incredible, with every little thing thought of that you could imagine.

We loved watching the beautiful sunsets reflecting on the side of the Airstream, watching the sunrise across the lakes and wandering through the trees for morning and evening walks. We loved once again soaking up the magical vibes of Brook Meadow, from the friendly welcome at reception, through to the relaxed atmosphere by the lakes.

Brook Meadow may just be 20mins from home, but we truly felt like we’d had a break, and the Airstream was just perfect. Lily really didn’t want to leave – she loves swinging on the tree swing, seeing what she can spot in the lake, making new friends, and just being outdoors in nature, exploring the world around us.

We really felt like we’d been spoiled, and since our last visit was during Covid restrictions, it was wonderful to experience Brook Meadow again in full, especially the evening entertainment in the cow shed, while eating homemade cake!

Lily’s already got her eye on some of the other glamping options (she pretty much wants to stay in all of them!), but I can’t deny that I do too!
A huge thank you to the team at Brook Meadow for such a fantastic stay once again. We can’t wait to come back!
