Shop small this Christmas – unique gift ideas for mummy and kids

The supermarkets may have been stocking Quality Street since Back to School (I’ve even witnessed some creme eggs sneaking onto the shelves already!), but the phenomenon that is Black Friday seemed to send the retail world into meltdown, and remind everyone that Christmas will be upon us sooner than we thought.

Ekawear’s little elf, Tilda

Anyone following my Instagram will probably have noticed my spamming from some of Lily’s rad clothing pile – built up from the support of some amazing Insta-stores out there, some of who we are super lucky to rep for. These stores are run by one-mum bands who not only hand make their amazing products, but also have ‘normal’ jobs, and kids (also 24 hour jobs!) to care for too. It’s beyond me how they do it – if I can make it through the day with both Lily and I in one piece, then that’s an achievement enough!

So with Christmas approaching and many Insta-stores shouting their last orders to get in before Santa arrives, I thought I’d give you a heads up to some of my favourite gifts out there – and you know you are supporting families out there rather than big stores 🙂

Mary’s Machine @marysmachine

Who doesn’t love a pashmina for Christmas? The lovely Ruth, aka Mary’s Machine, has launched an incredible range of icedye pashminas that are customisable in any colours you want. They’re incredibly soft, and are selling like hotcakes! If you’re loving the icedye, you can also pick up some awesome customisable baby and toddler leggings and Tshirts too, in any colours you like, with the choice of initials or numbers on the front if you’d like too! (For a cheeky extra discount you can use code TEAL10 :)!) Keep your eye out on the site as coming very soon are your own kits for tie dye and ice dye with everything you need – perfect for a gift, baby shower, or even for yourself!

Wonder-mum Gilly has hit Notonthehighstreet by storm with her beautiful range of crocheted hats, mittens, scarfs, and home furnishings. I’ve owned one of her crochet shawls for several years now, and still get comments on how lovely it is. We are in particular love with her secret message mittens with snowflakes in the palms for both adults and children, as well as her animal mittens for the little ones.

Trendy Tots Threads @trendytotsthreads

Trendy Tots Threads was my first Insta-love thanks to the beautiful range of fabrics – in fact I think we own pretty much every fabric in Diane’s range. We find the leggings fit really well, are well finished off so are high quality, and are lovely and soft too. Our current favourites are the mammoths in both cream or turquoise, and the incredibly soft fleece-lined space leggings, which are perfect for that extra cosiness in this weather. Lily is still rocking some leggings from 6 months ago so it’s proof they really do last! Diane’s two lovely girls also rep for some lovely insta-brands so are worth following for some clothing inspiration!

Maebaes @maebeesuk

Snowflakes, stars, rainbows… this is an Insta-store that squeezes my heart strings with every new fabric, sending a little tingle through me! Laura is an absolutely amazing lady who not only sells some stunning clothing, but multitasks between her job, mumlife, Maebaes, and is soon to be a mummy again too (you are an inspiration to many!!). Her site is worth keeping an eye on for some gift-ready products left over from her market, packaged and ready to go. The llama fabric has always been a soft spot for me, but everyone needs to get hold of the snowflakes and penguins  fabric this Christmas. High quality, soft, and beautifully made – perfect for presents.

Who doesn’t love a good bobble hat? But even better when you can twin them between mummy and your little munch! What’s more, £1 from the sale of every bobble sold goes to Bliss, supporting premature babies. These are the first beanies Lily actually keeps on her own head – they are very cosy – plus we get so much love on our twinning bobbles from complete strangers too! Beanies come in so many colour combinations, and you can even choose your own – but be quick as they often sell out super fast after each restock!

Mini Grom Wear @minigromwear

It is no secret we are a big fan of snowboarding and skate life, and although we don’t want to push Lily into anything she doesn’t enjoy, we are pretty stoked she loves the mountains and outdoors as much as we do – and that she demands to get her skateboard out!! Mini Grom Wear has one of the raddest logos out there, producing tees for toddlers and children who love the beach, mountains or skate parks. They are really soft and we love how the large logo is on the back with the small pocket logo on the front. They’re also great for layering, putting a long sleeve tee or vest underneath!

Lauren Dwyer @ldwyerfashion

For mamas, papas, and little ones alike, Lauren Dwyer has a whole range of gorgeous printed clothing. Whether it’s a unique printed vest for a newborn, or one of their famous Mama bear hoodies for yourself, you can be sure to find something for all your family. We are in love with the Christmas long sleeve hooded tees for the little ones!

Isaacs treasures @isaacs_treasures

I’ve only recently come across this little gem of a site, but now can’t wait to decorate Lily’s new room when we move! Peg dolls, shelves, name blocks, and a whole host of wooden toys and decorations painted in beautiful marbled or splattered designs, just for you. Really worth checking out for something unique and personalised for girls and boys of all ages.
